FAQ

WHAT IS DMS?

Deep Muscle Stimulator Method (DMS) is a noninvasive technique offering a natural complement to your health care protocols. DMS can help alleviate many conditions related to muscle tension, muscle soreness, acute and chronic pain, poor circulation, fibrosis and scar tissue. DMS therapy also can provide relief from chronic inflammation. DMS therapy can be used in the management of acute and chronic , bursitis, tendonitis, migraine headaches, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, TMJ, edema, myofacial pain, and frozen joints.

DMS is deep muscle stimulation. DMS therapy is a technique whereby pressure and or percussion is applied to muscles to reach deep into those muscles. This can help to stimulate blood flow, which can improve circulation, increase lymphatic flow, reducing lactic acid accumulation, and helping in proprioceptive stimulation. This new therapy uses the DMS device, hence the term, DMS therapy.

WHAT DOES DMS THERAPY DO?

DMS is like a deep tissue massage.

It…

Releases pain and tension

Releases tight muscle spasms

Improves flexibility, mobility and range of motion

Helps chronic pain

Increases blood flow

Breaks up scar tissue

Decreases lactic acid

Increases lymphatic flow

Much of muscle pain can stem from conditions such as strains, lactic acid build up, scar tissue, etc. DMS therapy uses mechanical vibrations and percussion that reach deep into muscle tissue to stimulate proprioceptive functions. No other device on the market has the effectiveness of the DMS.

WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF DMS THERAPY?

DMS is beneficial to soft tissues that feel dense, ropey. taut, tender, and overactive. DMS increases range of motion and blood flow. Areas that are sensitive or painful such as myofascial trigger point pain are improved.

The vibration and percussion can promote relaxation within the muscle system and lymphatic drainage that helps move trapped fluid that has a tendency to accumulate in some individuals. Breaking up trigger points and providing relief from fluid stagnation are two important benefits of DMS.

DMS therapy provides the deep muscle tissue of patients with kinetic forms of percussion and concussion vibration, which in turn facilitate the patient or athlete with the benefits of:

  • Increased circulation
  • Reduced pain
  • Faster rehabilitation from injury
  • Break up of muscular scar tissue
  • Increased lymphatic flow
  • Reduced lactic acid build up
  • Tissue Regeneration
  • Soft & Active tissue release

DMS therapy can be used in the management of acute and chronic pain, not exclusive to, but including tendonitis, bursitis, migraine headaches, sciatica, TMJ, carpal tunnel syndrome, edema, myofacial pain, and frozen joints.

HOW DOES DMS THERAPY HELP AID IN HEALING AND RELIEVE PAIN?

DMS therapy can concentrate on general or local muscle spasms. It increases muscle metabolism as well as increasing the lactic acid cycle to relieve pain. Deep, rapid, short-duration percussion is key to helping facilitate the elimination of pain.

The Deep Muscle Stimulator is known to increase the circulation of blood and flow of lymph. Direct mechanical effect of rhythmical pressure and movement used in DMS can dramatically increase the rate of blood flow. The stimulation of nerve receptors causes the blood vessels to dilate, which also helps blood flow.

ARE THERE OTHER BENEFITS?

DMS can help loosen contracted, shortened muscles and can stimulate weak, flaccid muscles. This “balancing” of muscles can help posture and promote more efficient movement. DMS is also being used for Manual Therapy and Musculoskeletal Dysfunction.

It is possible to do more exercise and training, which in the long run strengthens muscle and improves conditioning. DMS also provides a gentle stretching action to both the muscles and connective tissues surrounding and supporting the muscles and many other parts of the body, which helps keep these tissues elastic.

DMS also aids recovery from soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains. This is possible because the growth and repair of tissue is accelerated by efficient circulation in the injured areas and appropriate stimulation of the healing tissues.

WHO USES DMS THERAPY?

The DMS Therapy device was designed to be used in physical therapy clinics, chiropractic offices, and hospital rehabilitation, as well as by sports trainers and massage therapists. DMS therapy can be used on trigger points or you can isolate a specific muscle group. DMS therapy is used to treat the entire body. It is an excellent tool to be used pre and post rehabilitation and workouts.
